When you have a serious illness, you and your loved ones may be overwhelmed by its symptoms, pain, and stress. Mount Sinai Palliative Care will work with your medical care providers to offer an added layer of support regardless of age, disease stage, or prognosis. Central to our care is communicating and coordinating your treatment options to maximize your quality of life while respecting your goals and aspirations.

At Mount Sinai, we know palliative care is a vital part of the care provided to seriously ill patients and their families. Our palliative care teams include: palliative medicine specialist physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, chaplains, registered nurses, physicians receiving additional training in palliative medicine (post-graduate fellows) licensed massage therapists, yoga specialists, art therapists, and child-life therapists. The Hertzberg Institute provides an active and expanding community palliative care program as well as a dedicated inpatient units and consultation teams throughout New York City.

At The Mount Sinai Hospital, outpatient palliative care and supportive oncology services take place in the Martha Stewart Center for Living and the Ruttenberg Treatment Center. Patients with complex needs can be cared for around the clock in the 14-bed Wiener Family Palliative Care Unit and throughout the hospital. At Mount Sinai Beth Israel we have a dedicated palliative care unit and offer outpatient and palliative care and supportive oncology teams at Mount Sinai-Union Square and The Blavatnik Family – Chelsea Medical Center. Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai St. Luke’s offer inpatient services including chaplaincy and music, pet, and art therapy.

Consultation Service

If you are interested in palliative care, we are happy to provide a consultation to determine what services would be appropriate. Our Palliative Care Consult Team is available to all patients admitted throughout the Mount Sinai Health System. The interdisciplinary team consisting of physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and massage therapists specializing in palliative care works with you and your primary doctor to help develop a continuity plan to meet your needs and goals.

Our consultations typically cover:

  • Help navigating the health care system
