"On Alert - Area Hospitals Preparing to Respond to Coronavirus Threat" - Lisa Colangelo & David Reich-Hale
Hospitals throughout Long Island are on alert for signs of the emerging coronavirus that has sickened hundreds of people in China, some fatally, and recently was detected in the United States. According to Aaron Glatt, MD, FACP, FIDSA, FSHEA, clinical professor of medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, chairman of the department of medicine and hospital epidemiologist, and chief of infectious disease at Mount Sinai South Nassau, “The first and most important thing we do is educate our staff.” He added, “We try to isolate people with the flu, too. The unknown is always scary, but I’m also very concerned about the flu.”
