The Mount Sinai Health System has established a new data science center to develop artificial intelligence and other applications to help diagnose and treat Covid-19. “We were hit extremely hard and the center came about in response to this crisis,” said Dr. Zahi Fayad, director of Mount Sinai’s Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Institute and the new center’s co-founder. “Several machine-learning algorithms were developed to help doctors and others make assessments such as which Covid-19 patients are likely to need a ventilator and which ones are recovering and are close to being discharged,” said Robbie Freeman, vice president of clinical innovation at Mt. Sinai and a registered nurse.
