Last April, Michael Warner was out of a job. In fact, he had been without steady work for over a decade.

He was also on a mission to lose weight. When he fell behind on rent, he turned to Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, one of the eight organizations supported by The New York Times Neediest Cases Fund. Using $500 from the fund, the agency helped cover part of his debt. Mr. Warner, 45, shared his struggles with The Times as part of the fund’s campaign last fall. He hoped it would help others in similar situations know that they are not alone. The New York Times article helped him get a job. Since January, Mr. Warner has been working in an entry-level administrative position at The Mount Sinai Hospital. “He comes to work, and he's so happy,” said Carolyn Forman, administrator, Transplantation Institute, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Mr. Warner said, “It feels nice to be back out there and be productive.”
