Kenneth Davis, MD, president and CEO of the Mount Sinai Health System discusses rising drug prices and trade talks. According to Dr. Davis, “Health care costs are driven by social factors that really affect your health. We in this country don’t spend enough time dealing with those social consequences.” Dr. Davis added, “U.S. drug costs are two to six times higher than the rest of the world. In all the other parts of the world, the government is the only payer, and they set the price. In the United States we have a free market, what I don’t understand is why in trade talks, we don’t make this a prominent issue.”
