More Evidence That Parents' Ages Influence Autism Risk
A study of more than 5.7 million children in five countries sheds light on how autism develops, but also raises new questions. Researchers found that children born to older parents had higher rates of autism. Rates were also higher among the children of teen moms, and among children whose parents have a relatively large gap between their ages. "What we're still trying to figure out at this point is why," says Avraham Reichenberg, PhD, Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York and the senior author of the study.
