The results of the long awaited cancer study proving a link between 9/11 first responders and cancer diagnoses is finally revealed. The study found that firefighters who toiled in the wreckage of the World Trade Center in 2001 were 19 percent more likely to develop cancer than those who were not there, the strongest evidence to date of a possible link between work at ground zero and cancer. Dr. Philip Landrigan from Mount Sinai School of Medicine believes there is a definitive cancer link. “They inhaled all sorts of toxic material while they were down there and as a consequence of their heroism a number of them are sick today and probably more will get sick in the years ahead,” said Dr. Landrigan.
