"NY1: Lung Cancer Survival Rate May Grow as Screenings Increase"

Lung cancer is hard to detect - you can't feel the lump like with breast cancer. "It's tough, lung cancer's often not symptomatic. The most common associated symptom with lung cancer is cough," says Dr. Daniel Nicastri, a thoracic surgeon at The Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Nicastri adds there are much more common reasons to have a cough than cancer which is partly why so many are dying from the disease - it's often diagnosed too late. This year, Medicare and Medicaid began paying for lung cancer screenings. It was added to the list of preventative services under the Affordable Care Act in 2013. Learn more.
