"Prostate Cancer Test Proved to be a Lifesaver for Former Heavyweight Boxer"

Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S. and black men have the highest incidence of the disease. After being told he had abnormally high prostate specific antigen, or PSA levels, heavyweight boxer Renaldo Snipes knew he had to do something and through a friend found Deepak Kapoor, MD, a clinical associate professor of urology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Kapoor discovered Snipes had an aggressive form of prostate cancer and eventually treated Snipes with targeted radiation therapy. "The only tool that we have to detect prostate cancer in its earliest, most treatable form is the PSA blood test. And the PSA is not a perfect test,” said Dr. Kapoor. Learn more.
