Andrew Joannou and his wife have been married for 13 years but have not been able to hold hands due to B’s severe Tourette’s syndrome. After four decades with Tourette’s, Andrew came to The Mount Sinai Hospital for a treatment known as deep brain stimulation. “Neuromodulation is a group of treatments that seek to alter neurological illness by stimulating areas of the nervous system in order to change neural function,” said Brian Kopell, MD, Associate Professor of Neurosurgery, Neuroscience, Neurology, and Psychiatry at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
