The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program is designed for individuals who have completed a baccalaureate degree in a non-nursing discipline or major. All students must complete prerequisites before entering the program. Graduates of this full-time, 15-month, program are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN licensure examination and are well-prepared to pursue graduate nursing degrees.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the program, the graduate will be able to:
- Achieve a liberal education by applying principles from the sciences, arts and humanities to patient-centered nursing practice.
- Apply knowledge and skills in basic organizational and systems leadership, quality improvement and patient safety, to provide high quality healthcare.
- Demonstrate scholarship for evidence based practice by integrating best current evidence with clinical expertise in delivering safe, quality care to diverse individuals, families and communities.
- Implement healthcare information technologies in the management of quality patient care.
- Define the current healthcare policy, finance and regulatory environments and how these entities influence the nature and functioning of healthcare systems and consideration for practice.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication and collaboration with interprofessional teams to improve patient health outcomes.
- Demonstrate health promotion and disease prevention interventions at the individual and population levels in order to improve patient health outcomes.
- Demonstrate professionalism and professional values that include altruism, autonomy, human dignity, integrity, social justice and lifelong learning.
- Practice as a baccalaureate nurse generalist with patients across the lifespan and across the continuum while respecting the variations, complexity and resources needed for care of patients
Program Goals/Outcomes
- 75% or more of students entering the program will successfully complete the program within six academic semesters (150% of the expected completion time).
- Graduates’ licensure exam pass rates (for first-time test takers) will be at a minimum of 80%.
- 80% or more of the graduates will obtain employment as registered nurses within twelve months of graduation.
ABSN Academic Policies
The academic policies of the School are designed to ensure that all students meet the schools’s academic standards for successful program completion and eventual licensure. Students are advised to be thoroughly familiar with these policies since they will be accountable for strict adherence to all academic policies and for maintenance of the ethical and legal standards of the School.
Residency Requirements
The minimum residency requirement is 48 nursing credits. Comparable Pathophysiology (NSG 302) and Pharmacology (NSG 205) course may be accepted for transfer credits on a case-by-case basis.
Time Requirements for Program Completion
Program completion is calculated as 150% of the standard completion time for the program. For the ABSN program, students have a maximum of six semesters for program completion.
