Cardiac Imaging

Imaging is an important tool in maintaining heart health. It helps us reach an accurate diagnosis, which enables us to develop the best possible treatment plan. Mount Sinai Heart New York Palm Beach offers a range of advanced imaging services. Our specialists are skilled in viewing both the structures and the processes in the body.

Echocardiography

Echocardiograms are an ultrasound test that let us see your heart. They are less expensive and less invasive than other approaches. They are also safer than other approaches because they do not use magnetic fields or ionizing radiation.

We use several types of ultrasound, including the following:

  • Transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE): Using a device called a transducer, we can explore various locations of the chest. The TTE emits sound waves that let us view your heart.
  • Transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE): We use a small device that emits sound waves. It is attached to a thin tube that we thread through the mouth and into the esophagus to your heart in detail.
  • Stress echocardiogram: This test shows how well your heart works while you walk on a treadmill.
  • Ultrasound imaging: This test allows us to see your abdominal aorta, carotid artery, and peripheral vascular system, both veins and arteries.

Nuclear Cardiology

We use noninvasive techniques to see your heart. These images help us provide accurate diagnoses and treatments. Nuclear cardiology shows us how well your heart is pumping, and the location and size of a heart attack.

Diagnostic nuclear imaging also looks at how your heart is working. We inject radioactive drugs that emit gamma rays into your bloodstream. Then we use a nuclear camera to take an image of the drug as it enters and settles in various tissues or organs. By tracing this blood flow, we learn a lot about how your heart and vascular system are working.
