Daily Checkup: "Winter Temperatures Increase Incidence of Stroke"

It's no surprise that this winter's extreme weather is sending people to the hospital for slips and falls, but research also suggests that low temperatures are associated with increased hospitalizations for stroke.

"A stroke occurs when the brain doesn’t get enough blood, often as the result of atrial fibrillation, a heart rhythm problem," said Vivek Reddy, MD, Professor of Medicine (Cardiology), and Director of Arrhythmia Services at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
