Long-Acting Injectable Antiretroviral Therapy
For some people who need HIV medication, daily pills aren’t always the ideal solution. If you have barriers to taking daily pills, long-acting injectable antiretroviral therapy (LAI) is a highly effective alternative. This advanced approach gives you the treatment you need through shots every month or every two months. These medications work for both prevention and treatment of HIV.
Since 2022, Mount Sinai’s Institute for Advanced Medicine (IAM) has pioneered use of these injectable antiretroviral medications. We offer the following drugs:
- For prevention of HIV: Injectable PrEP also known as long-acting cabotegravir (Apretude)
- For treatment of HIV: A combination of long-acting cabotegravir and rilpivirine (Cabenuva) and lenacapavir (Sunlenca) ®
You can receive your injections at the IAM office where you receive your PrEP and primary care.
