About Us
For nearly 100 years, Mount Sinai’s digestive disease specialists have been at the forefront of research and treatment of Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis – the two most common forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In fact, Crohn’s disease was named for Mount Sinai physician Burrill B. Crohn, MD, after he and his colleagues first described the condition in 1932.
Today, Mount Sinai physicians care for more patients with IBD at every stage of life than any other medical center in the country. Gastroenterologists from around the world send their most challenging cases to our IBD physicians. Mount Sinai ranks 8th in the nation for the care of digestive diseases, according to the latest US News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” list. Our expert clinical care is informed by a robust translational research enterprise within The Helmsley Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, where faculty are transforming the science and treatment of IBD.
Because IBD influences so many aspects of life and may affect other organs, your care will involve a close-knit team of experts. The Feinstein IBD Center is unique in having physicians (for both children and adults), surgeons, pathologists, nurses, social workers, researchers, nutritionists and other allied health professionals under one roof providing comprehensive, collaborative care. In addition, Mount Sinai IBD specialists are constantly conducting clinical trials to develop or test new and advanced treatments. Patients eligible for these studies might receive potentially groundbreaking new therapies and medications before they are available anywhere else in the world.
Our goal is to provide our patients the most thorough and individualized treatment plan available. Each patient that we see teaches us better, more compassionate and personalized ways of dealing with the next person who is diagnosed with IBD.
