For nearly 100 years, Mount Sinai’s digestive disease specialists have been at the forefront of research and treatment of Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis – the two most common forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In fact, Crohn’s disease was named for Mount Sinai physician Burrill B. Crohn, MD, after he and his colleagues first described the condition in 1932.

Gastroenterologists from around the world send their most challenging cases to our IBD physicians. Our expert clinical care is informed by a robust translational research enterprise within The Helmsley Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, where faculty are transforming the science and treatment of IBD.
