Cancer Telemedicine Appointments

Our cancer specialties offer the option of telemedicine/video visits. This option is a convenient alternative to in-office visits and is especially helpful during this time of heightened concern about COVID-19, with reducing your potential risk to exposure. Video visits are available for both new patients and established patients. A video visit allows you to have a face-to-face visit with your provider quickly and safely.

Your cancer doctor at Mount Sinai will determine if a video visit is appropriate for you, based on your diagnosis, disease status, and stage of treatment.

If you are an established patient and would like to schedule a video visit, please contact your physician’s office through MyMountSinai or by phone.

If you are new patient and would like to schedule a video visit, please call 1-844-MD-CANCER.

Frequently Asked Questions about Telemedicine

What types of appointments for cancer care can take place via video visits?
We are using video visits for both new and follow-up appointments. While video visits are most appropriate for follow-up care, in many cases new patients can be seen through a video visit as well.

How do I book a telemedicine appointment?
If you are an established patient and would like to schedule a video visit, please contact your physician’s office through MyMountSinai or by phone.

If you are new patient and would like to schedule a video visit, please call 1-844-MD-CANCER.

Do you have a step-by-step guide for patients to begin a telemedicine appointment?
Yes. You can find instructions here.

What type of phone, tablet or computer setup is required for the video visit?
You will need to have access to a smartphone or a tablet. Video visits are performed using the MyMountSinai app (found in the Google Play store or iTunes) on any recently released Android, iOS phone, or tablet.

Is my healthcare information safe during a video session?
Mount Sinai uses encrypted, HIPAA-compliant technology to connect you to our doctors. No one else will be present in the room with the doctor or listening on the phone line. You will be able to discuss your health in confidence, within a secure and private environment.

Is there a copay for a telemedicine appointment?
Currently, in many cases, copays are being waived during the novel coronavirus pandemic, but may apply if your insurance carrier requires it. This will depend on the type of insurance you have. The co-pay for a video visit will most likely be the same amount as the co-pay for an in-person visit.
