About Geriatric Psychiatry at Mount Sinai
The Division of Geriatric Psychiatry offers a range of neuropsychiatric treatments and services to meet the individual needs of adult patients over the age of 60. Our highly skilled team draws on extensive clinical experience and emerging research to treat a range of conditions, including mood, anxiety, and psychotic disorders and dementia. From the initial evaluation through the entire course of treatment, our goal is to provide patients with the therapies and support they need to enjoy the fullest possible life.
Offering Comprehensive Psychiatric Services
Our Division’s outpatient and inpatient services provide multidisciplinary care that includes pharmacological treatment, psychotherapy (including group-based therapy), neuropsychological testing, and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). We offer consultations for patients referred from around the tri-state area and beyond. Support groups and workshops for caregivers are also provided.
Our multidisciplinary team of physicians, psychiatric nurses, and licensed clinical social workers is skilled in customizing these treatment offerings to design the optimal care plan for each patient. The Division’s home within the Mount Sinai Health System ensures that any patients with co-morbid medical conditions have access to the hospital’s full range of medical specialists.
Enhancing Psychiatric Treatments through Research
Our treatments are augmented by the clinical research opportunities we provide for patients with mood and psychotic disorders as well as memory disorders. Such research seeks to refine current therapies, develop new therapies, and to discover the neurobiological basis for a range of neuropsychiatric illnesses.
Combining the newest science with a wealth of clinical experience, our Division of Geriatric Psychiatry provides treatments in an environment that respects each patient’s dignity and autonomy with the goal of returning our patients to their highest level of functioning.
