Doulas are specially trained volunteers who provide support and companionship for patients with serious illness. Through the Mount Sinai Doula Program, organized by Marianne Gelber, NP, and our Chaplain, Rabbi Edie Meyerson, volunteers are interviewed and undergo an intensive training program.
Doulas can help to minimize the sense of isolation which many hospitalized patients feel, offer emotional comfort, and assist with practical concerns. Doulas volunteer their time on a weekly basis and help us to provide comprehensive patient and family care.
To request a doula visit, tell the nurse who is caring for you.
To become a doula, please contact Rabbi Edith M. Meyerson, DMin, BCC at firstname.lastname@example.org.
