The Cohen Center for Pediatric Comprehensive Care
The Cohen Center for Pediatric Comprehensive Care provides high quality and affordable health care for children from birth to 21 years of age in New York City and the tri-state area. We understand the challenges of raising healthy, happy kids today, and we work with you to meet that challenge – and enjoy the experience together.
As part of one of the nation’s top clinical care, teaching, and research hospitals, the Cohen Center for Pediatric Comprehensive Care provides comprehensive care with an emphasis on prevention. Care is provided by pediatric doctors, including our residents and trainees, who are sensitive to cultural diversity. This includes newborn exams, well-child visits, vaccinations, school-entry and sports physicals, and routine vision and hearing screenings. It also includes care when your child is ill or has a chronic illness. If necessary, we are able to make timely referrals to pediatric specialty services within Mount Sinai.
We also offer a wide variety of other programs and services aimed at promoting the health and well-being of children, families, and the community. These services include programs to support early childhood literacy, parenting support, asthma prevention and treatment, obesity prevention, legal advocacy, mental health services, and services to prevent hunger.
Well Child Care
- Well visits are routine visits to check on the well-being of your child and help create strong, trustworthy relationships with your pediatrician. At all well visits we will discuss growth, nutrition, and development as well as school performance and mental health for school aged children and teenagers.
- For more information on routine well visits please visit: https://www.mountsinai.org/health-library/special-topic/well-child-visits
- For more information about developmental milestones https://www.sparksvideoseries.com/watch-now
- Vaccines/immunizations will be given at many of the well visits, according to the schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP): Vaccines are commonly given at ages two months, four months, six months, 12 months, 15 month, 18 months, four years, and at various visits between 9-18 years old. We recommend yearly vaccination against influenza.
- Bloodwork is routinely done at ages 9-12 months and two years to screen for anemia and exposure to lead, and at ages 9-11 years to screen for elevated cholesterol.
Sick Child & Telehealth Visits
-
If your child has signs of an acute illness, we will be happy to accommodate a same day visit called an urgent visit. You can call us starting at 8:00 am, Monday through Friday and from 10 am through 3 pm on Saturdays to schedule this type of visit. Please call 212-659-8559 to make an appointment.
-
For certain acute concerns and follow-up visits that do not require an in-person physical exam, we offer telehealth (video) visits. We recommend in-person visits for all well-child visits and most urgent visits. Call 212-659-8559 for more information.
Lactation Visits
- Our Breastfeeding Program helps families that need breastfeeding support and guidance. Visits are led by Tessa Scripps, MD, and Erica Brody, MD, who are Certified Lactation Counselors (CLCs).
- Clinic hours are 12:30 PM on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. To schedule a visit, call 212-659-8559 or send a message through the MyMountSinai app.
New Patients
To schedule your child’s first visit, please call 212-659-8559. If your child is transferring from another pediatrician’s practice, please ask the office to send your child’s medical and immunization records to us before your appointment so we can review the records before the initial visit.
Records may be sent by:
- Email: PediatricAmbulatoryCare@MountSinai.org
- Fax: 212-996-9685
After Hours & Urgent Care
If your child is having a medical emergency, please call 911 immediately.
One of our physicians is on call after office hours for urgent issues only. Please call 212-659-8559 to send a message to the on-call provider who will call you back.
For all other routine and non-urgent matters, please call during weekday business hours: Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm.
My Mount Sinai App Communications
Our medical team is happy to answer non-urgent questions and concerns via the MyMountSinai platform. Please allow two to three business days for a response. If you require a response sooner, please call 212-659-8559.
Office Policies
Late Arrival
In order to allow all patients to be seen at their scheduled time, we strictly enforce a late arrival policy. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early for your scheduled appointment to allow time for the elevator, check in process, and other steps. If you arrive 20 minutes or more after your scheduled appointment, we will consider you a “no show” and your doctor may not be able to see you. As a note, there is no 20-minute grace period for last appointments of the session or evening clinic.
Cancellations
If you need to cancel an appointment, please do so at least 24 hours in advance.
Telephone/My Mount Sinai App/After Hour Encounters
When medical advice is given over the phone or via My Mount Sinai app, the provider is required to create an encounter for the purposes of documentation and billing. Depending on your insurance plan, these encounters may incur a charge or copay. The charge is determined by each plan and carrier, not by our providers nor our office. We encourage you to call your insurance to verify if these types of encounters will be covered.
Vaccinations
Your pediatrician cares deeply about your child’s health and development. To help keep kids healthy and protected as they grow, our team proudly follows the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Recommended Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule. We are here to partner with you every step of the way to ensure your child stays safe at every milestone.
Vaccines are commonly given at ages two months, four months, six months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, four years, and at various visits between 9-18 years old. We also recommend a yearly vaccination against influenza.
For additional details on specific vaccines and age guidelines, you can explore the AAP Immunization Resources or review the full schedule on HealthyChildren.org.
