The Center for Spirituality and Health is committed to improving the health of the communities that Mount Sinai Health System serves, by working with faith-based and community organizations. We recognize the importance of faith and religion in medical decision-making and we know that faith-based leaders can have a significant role in promoting the health of their congregations.
We believe that a healthy congregation means having a balance of body, mind, and spirit.
At the Center, we operate the Health through Early Awareness and Learning (HEAL) Project, which has helped congregations get the word out about detecting early signs of health complications. Project HEAL helps educate, empower, and connect YOU with resources to get screened for your health.
Through the M.I.C.A.H(TM) Projects:
- Monthly breakfasts provide health education and discussions of the intersection between health and spirituality.
- Our Multi-faith Initiative on Community and Health program facilitates health education programs, wellness events, health screenings, and helps members of community and faith-based organizations to access health care throughout the Mount Sinai Health System. Mindful of the social determinants of health, we work to decrease health care disparities. We strive to promote health while respecting the myriad faith traditions in a cultural competent manner.
