Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy
If you have large, bulging veins, you may be experiencing varicose veins. One of the most common treatments for the condition is ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy. During this procedure, your doctor inserts a tiny needle into the affected veins. Then, using ultrasound as a guide, we position the needle into place. Next, the doctor injects a chemical substance that irritates the interior surfaces of the vein. This causes the sides of the vein to swell and stick together, which closes the vein. Surrounding tissue absorbs the vein, and it disappears. Then the blood flow is redirected to healthier veins in the area. Sclerotherapy is a relatively safe procedure. Most patients experience no complications and gain immediate relief.
Ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy is particularly useful to treat diseased veins that are not visible to the naked eye. Often, these veins are particularly difficult to treat.
