Pediatric Emergency Care
Pediatric Emergency Care is provided in a dedicated family-friendly area of the emergency department separate from our adult emergency unit to provide the best treatment for your child. Specialty-trained doctors at Mount Sinai Beth Israel are dedicated to delivering care to infants, children, and young adults with serious health conditions that require immediate attention. We are here for your child, 24-hours a day, seven days a week and we support your family during these times when you worry most about your child.
Our multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, and child life specialists work together to give your critically sick or seriously injured child outstanding, compassionate care. We offer comprehensive family-centered resources that address pediatric medical and mental health needs.
Our Short Stay Unit provides monitoring up to 48 hours after emergency care if medically necessary.
Conditions We Treat
During a health emergency, your child’s life may be at risk. You should call your pediatrician or 911 for advice, or bring your young one to us immediately. We are equipped to diagnose and treat all types of emergency conditions.
- Medical emergencies—If your child loses consciousness, has breathing difficulties, or suffers a choking incident, has a seizure, continued vomiting, or an extremely high fever, has severe stomach or other pain that is causing your child physical distress.
- Traumatic injuries—When your child suffers from an injured arm or leg, serious burns or smoke inhalation due to a fire, a near drowning incident, a car accident, or fall that causes harm.
- Surgical emergencies—Our doctors evaluate if surgery is required for large cuts that are bleeding so much that you cannot stop the bleeding, when teeth are knocked out, or there are mouth and face injuries.
- Mental health emergencies—In the midst of a mental crisis, you may see that your child’s behavior is dramatically changed, endangering your child or others, if your child has suicidal thoughts, or is irrational, confused, and is inconsolable.
We have been providing pediatric emergency care and serving the community since 1999.
