Site Engagement Councils and Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)

Site engagement councils help to foster an equitable environment that represents the diverse perspectives of our organization. Councils exist at Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) hospitals, the Corporate Services Center, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and within centers and departments across the Health System. All faculty, staff, trainees, and students are welcome to participate.

Employee resource groups (ERGs) seek to establish and uphold equity and are united by common goals, interests, and characteristics. ERGs exist systemwide. All faculty, staff, trainees, and students are welcome to participate.

The Role of Site Engagement Councils and ERGs

Site engagement councils and ERGs are charged to provide insights for education and support activities to serve our staff, patients, and communities to allow for the best health outcomes by:

  • Seeking innovative ways to address the needs of faculty, staff, trainee, student, and patient populations to promote belongingness and enhance the patient experience
  • Recommending ways to promote an equitable environment to address the needs of those who may not have opportunities to thrive
  • Identifying updates to practices or policies to enhance health equity, safety, and patient outcomes, ensuring our processes reflect systemwide commitments to quality care
  • Shaping meaningful initiatives, promoting engagement, and driving equity-focused improvements that strengthen our culture and the care we deliver to our patients

Through their participation, engagement council and ERG members can:

  • Network with colleagues across the Health System
  • Lead projects and engagement activities
  • Invest in their professional development and growth.
