Administrative Fellowship Program
Established in 2015 and managed by the Office for Health Data, Outcomes, and Engagement Strategy, the Mount Sinai Health System Administrative Fellowship Program is a two-year leadership development program that provides a focused pathway into health care leadership roles for early-career professionals. As a member of the National Council on Administrative Fellowships (NCAF), we conduct a competitive, nationwide recruitment process to identify high-potential candidates for these coveted positions each year.
Since inception, we have successfully graduated 32 fellows, 15 of whom continue to serve within the Health System in a variety of managerial and leadership roles, spanning from administrative and senior managers to associate and senior directors; click here to view our current fellows and alumni who continue to work within the Health System. We are deeply committed to supporting early career professionals who embody Mount Sinai’s core values and who represent the next generation of health care leaders.
Overview
We uniquely designed the program to provide our administrative fellows with an intensive, accelerated managerial learning experience. Under the tutelage of executive and senior leadership preceptors who mentor and guide them throughout their two-year experience, fellows participate in:
- One-of-a-kind opportunities in hospital, academic, research, and learning settings with a particular focus on advancing health equity, providing culturally appropriate and human-centered care, and understanding the social drivers of health to improve access to care and overall health outcomes with the goal of meeting the needs of underserved communities.
- Departmental rotations, projects, and experiential learning to gain experience in financial planning, revenue cycle and resource allocation, data analytics, patient experience, operations, ambulatory care, and human resources, among other corporate and administrative functions.
- Educational conferences and webinars, through which they can network with other fellows and health care leaders across the country.
- Educational courses to build upon and/or learn new technical and interpersonal skills that are crucial to navigating assigned projects and tasks.
Additionally, fellows fill interim leadership positions where they assume temporary responsibility for a hospital division, manage staff, and report updates during senior leadership huddles and meetings. Our expectation is that fellows gain the skills and knowledge necessary to move into managerial and leadership positions within the Health System.
