System Throughput

System Throughput, also called Bed Management, is responsible for getting the right patient into the right bed at the right time, from the day patients enter the hospital until discharge. Beds are a critical resource, particularly in specialty areas, such as the intensive care and intermediate care stepdown units. System Throughput functions 24/7 to improve bed utilization and reduce waiting time for patients.

Centralized Bed Management optimizes Mount Sinai Health System’s capacity and resources by standardizing processes and providing real-time situational awareness. All patient movement, bed assignments, and requests are electronically submitted to our bed planners. Electronic dashboards, reports, and heads-up displays provide transparency to the points of entry and departments with which we coordinate.
