Mount Sinai is First in State to Receive Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification
The Mount Sinai Stroke Center has received Joint Commission certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, making it the first stroke center in New York State to receive this distinction.
The Joint Commission’s Comprehensive Stroke Center certification recognizes those hospitals that have the state-of-the-art infrastructure, staff and training to treat patients with the most complex strokes. The Mount Sinai Stroke Center earned this certification by demonstrating compliance with Comprehensive Stroke Center standards and requirements, including advanced imaging capabilities, 24/7 availability of specialized treatments, and an interdisciplinary team of clinicians with the unique education and competencies to care for complex stroke patients.
The Mount Sinai Stroke Center is also a New York State Department of Health-designated primary stroke center.
The Mount Sinai Stroke Center Receives the Get with the Guidelines®- Stroke Silver Achievement Award and Target: Stroke Honor Roll
The Mount Sinai Stroke Center has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get with the Guidelines®- Stroke Silver Achievement Award. To achieve the Silver Award, the Mount Sinai Stroke Center demonstrated 85 percent or better compliance with seven key Get with the Guidelines-Stroke quality indicators. These quality indicators are all aimed at reducing stroke-related death and disability and improving the lives of our stroke patients.
The Mount Sinai Stroke Center also received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll for meeting stroke quality indicators that reduce the time between hospital arrival and treatment with the clot-buster tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat ischemic stroke. Patients who receive this drug within three hours of stroke symptom onset may recover more quickly and be less likely to suffer severe disability.
These awards recognizes our commitment to and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke patient care by ensuring that treatment is consistent with the latest nationally accepted standards and recommendations.
