About Mount Sinai Digestive Disease Services
The Mount Sinai Hospital ranks 7th in the nation for the diagnosis and treatment of digestive disease, according to the U.S. News & World Report 2016-2017 “Best Hospitals” edition. We have more digestive disease specialists included in New York magazine’s “Best Doctors” list than any other institution in New York City. In addition, a listing by Time magazine of the top 50 most influential gastroenterologists of the twentieth century included six individuals from Mount Sinai—more than from any other medical center in the country.
Mount Sinai pediatric and adult gastroenterologists, surgeons, and other specialists are shaping the future of diagnosis and treatment through leading-edge research. Our work has resulted in new treatments for peptic ulcer, esophagitis, hiatal hernia, gastrointestinal cancer, and inflammatory bowel disease. We are constantly working on the development of new diagnostic techniques, such as those for cancer screening, and the improvement of current techniques.
Mount Sinai treats more patients with inflammatory bowel disease than any other hospital in the United States. Gastroenterologists from throughout the New York metropolitan area refer their most challenging endoscopic cases to the Mount Sinai Endoscopy Center.
We are redefining gastroenterology clinical practice guidelines because many of us at Mount Sinai are performing research, writing medical papers, and sitting on the committees that formulate practice guidelines for specialists across the country. As physicians working within a nationally prominent academic medical center, we have access to the latest and best medical equipment.
To improve diagnosis further, we employ our own team of staff pathologists, who specialize in examining tissue samples taken specifically from GI patients. This specialized experience allows more accurate and rapid diagnosis, which in turn leads to earlier and more targeted treatment.
No matter what your digestive disease — Mount Sinai can help.
