WIC Program
The Mount Sinai Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program is a federal and state-funded nutrition education and supplemental food program. The WIC Program provides eligible families with healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and connections to health and community resources, all at no cost to you.
Our team at Mount Sinai is here to support you throughout pregnancy, postpartum and your child’s early years, from infancy through childhood, when good nutrition matters most.
Do I Qualify for WIC?
You may qualify for WIC, and applying is free!
- Who is eligible: Pregnant individuals, breastfeeding parents, postpartum parents, and children under the age of 5. Guardians and foster parents caring for a child under 5 may also apply on the child’s behalf.
- Income & assistance programs: You may qualify even if you or someone in your household is working. If you or a household member participates in SNAP (food stamps), TANF/cash assistance, Medicaid, the Essential Plan, or Head Start/Early Head Start, you automatically meet WIC’s income eligibility requirements.
- Immigration status: Families who are non-U.S. citizens, undocumented, or hold an F-1 student visa are welcome and may be eligible to apply.
Not sure if you qualify? Apply today. Our team is here to help walk you through it.
What Is WIC Certification?
Certification is the simple process that determines if you and your family qualify for WIC benefits. To complete certifications, you must:
- Live in New York State. U.S. citizenship or legal residency is not required.
- Meet WIC income guidelines or qualify through certain participating programs.
What Do I Need for My WIC Appointment?
Appointments can be completed in person or over the phone, depending on your situation and appointment type. When you schedule your appointment, our staff will let you know what documents are required, which includes:
- Proof of identity
- Proof of household income or participation in a qualifying program
- Proof of New York State residency
- Immunization records for infants and children, when applicable
- Any additional documents needed to complete your certification
Important: If a child is enrolled in WIC, the child must be present for each certification appointment, as required or a completed medical referral form
