Monitoring Services

Are you concerned about the health effects of your 9/11-related work? Do you wonder if there might be changes in your health you might not be aware of? To help you find out, free and confidential monitoring exams are available through the WTC Health Program.

These monitoring exams are an important way to protect you, and you can have one of these check-ups every twelve months. Each new exam gives you and your doctors something to compare with the exam results from previous years. And in making these comparisons, doctors can track any changes taking place in your health over time.

Tracking and watching your health over years is so important for two reasons. Many 9/11-related illnesses can take years to develop. Secondly, you may feel fine, but changes in your body may already be taking place. Your monitoring exams can pick up these changes, without depending on how you are feeling.

Your monitoring exam includes:

  • Benefits counseling
  • Blood and Urine tests
  • Breathing tests
  • Chest x-ray every two years
  • Complete physical exam
  • Medical history
  • Mental health evaluation

There are no co-pays or deductibles, and no insurance is required.

Here at Mount Sinai careful monitoring takes time. Several different staff specialists may be involved during your monitoring visit. These specialists include doctors, nurses, technicians, and support personnel, all working together to catch any 9/11-related illnesses as soon as possible so that treatment can begin. Your monitoring visit also gives you the chance to learn about lifestyle practices that can improve your health.
