Summary:

Researchers at the Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Institute are seeking healthy volunteers between 18 and 40 years of age with apple- or pear- shaped body for a study on fat and health in women (please request for body shape image email). The study requires up to three visits to the clinical research unit at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital. Participants will donate blood and fat samples, which will be taken by a trained medical professional. Participants will be compensated for their time (up to $450) upon completion of the study.

Eligibility:

 

Inclusion criteria: 18-40 y, healthy, overweight Female (BMI > 25 or < 29 kg/m2), Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR ≤0.78 (pear shape) or ≥0.84 (apple shape))

Exclusion Criteria: < 18 y or > 40 y, BMI <22 or ≥30 kg/m2, WHR >0.78 and <0.84, pregnancy, chronic or acute systemic inflammatory or autoimmune disease, history of or current coronoary artery disease stage II or above congestive heart failure, peripheral vascular disease or stroke, unstable weight, uncontrolled hypertension, excessive caffeine or alcohol use, smoking, irregular menstrual cycle, lidocaine allergy, medications that affect fat metabolism
