Pediatric Hematology
Hematology is the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the blood, bone marrow, and blood-forming organs. At Mount Sinai, we have a long history of excellence in diagnosing and treating children with blood disorders. We also are involved with advanced research to improve clinical services for young people in this area.
Children and teens are not simply small adults. Their bodies are continuing to develop, and they may not always be able to answer questions or describe their symptoms the way an adult can. Our doctors have extensive experience working with young patients to provide the best possible diagnosis and treatment.
We belong to the National Marrow Donor Program and we are approved by the AABB (formerly American Association of Blood Banks) and the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy. Our hematology specialists work with the Mount Sinai Transfusion Medicine Service, a stem cell laboratory. We belong to the Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Consortium.
