The Mount Sinai Department of Dermatology is a national and worldwide destination for leading-edge treatment and research in all forms of psoriasis. With research and clinical teams working hand in hand, our physician-scientists are responsible for many of the safe and effective psoriasis treatments in world-wide use today, including life-changing biologic therapies. With an active roster of ongoing clinical trials, we are also innovating the treatments of tomorrow, which gives our patients access to emerging therapies not available anywhere else.
Advanced Clinical Care
Offering uniquely specialized psoriasis care, we are the only institution in New York State with physicians who are board certified in both rheumatology and dermatology. We also take a multidisciplinary approach, working with other Mount Sinai colleagues who specialize in areas such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes in order to offer our patients the best possible all-around care.
With extensive experience in even the rarest forms of psoriasis, our specialized teams are highly skilled in making challenging diagnoses and managing complex cases. Such deep experience also enables us to predict and manage side effects very effectively.
Our department is also home to a full Phototherapy Suite (which is among the world’s largest such units) for the treatment of psoriasis. Our suite includes skilled, precision therapies, such as excimer laser treatments.
We offer all treatments for all forms of psoriasis, including the following:
- Topicals: These include corticosteroids and non-steroidal drugs.
- Phototherapy (or light therapy): Mount Sinai offers a full Phototherapy Suite for the treatment of psoriasis. We also provide excimer laser treatments.
- Biologics: This targeted therapy blocks the activity of certain proteins in the immune system that play a key role in causing psoriasis.
- Oral treatments: These prescription medications are designed to reduce inflammation by calming the overactive immune response.
Our team of psoriasis specialists is committed to putting the resources of Mount Sinai’s research labs and multidisciplinary services to work for each patient. Our goal is to design the right safe and effective care plan for you, so that you can move beyond your psoriasis and live life to the fullest.
