Recognizing that each patient is different, we are skilled in personalizing a treatment plan that addresses all facets of your child’s neurological diagnosis.
Diagnosis of Pediatric Neurological Disorders
Pediatric neurological disorders are diagnosed based on a thorough review of your child’s history and symptoms. Sometimes, specific tests are needed including electroencephalography (EEG) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Not only does Mount Sinai’s program provide access to state-of-the-art testing, our staff takes a child-friendly approach to ensure the process of reaching a diagnosis is as comfortable as possible for patient and family.
Treatments for Pediatric Neurological Disorders
Our highly trained team is skilled in providing all treatments for pediatric neurological conditions, including collaborative psychological and psychiatric counseling, medication, pain management, and physical, occupational, and speech-language therapy. We are also committed to giving each child and family the practical and emotional support needed to achieve the best possible health.
In addition, Mount Sinai’s experts in pediatric neurology collaborate closely with the pediatric neurosurgical team to provide state-of-the art care for children and adolescents. Conditions including epilepsy, hydrocephalus, craniosynostosis, movement disorders, and brain tumors may respond to surgical procedures.
Research on Pediatric Neurological Disorders
The Mount Sinai team conducts research related to the diagnosis, genetic origins, and optimal treatment of pediatric neurological disorders. In order to ensure our patients are benefitting from the newest therapies, we may discuss participation in clinical trials, when appropriate.
