About Me

Dr. Vincent DeLeo, Chairman Emeritus, Department of Dermatology, St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center and Beth Israel Medical Center, of the Mount Sinai Health System. Recently moved to the West Coast where he is part-time Clinical Associate Professor of Dermatology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

His career has focused on environmental dermatology in both his clinical and research pursuits. His bench research which was NIH funded focused on photobiology and dermato-toxicology. His clinical interests include photo-medicine and contact and occupational dermatitis resulting in two books and over 250 publications. Dr DeLeo has lectured throughout the world andhas received numerous academic awards. He is currently Editor in Chief of Cutis and Associate Editor of Dermatitis. He has served as member of various organizational boards and has been elected to leadership positions including The Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology where he also served as a member and then Chair of that organization’s Nominating Committee. He was Secretary and then President of the American Contact Dermatitis Society.

In 1998, Dr. DeLeo spearheaded a new department of dermatology and residency training program at St Luke’s- Roosevelt Hospital Center and in 2001 he became Chair of the department at Beth Israel Medical Center. He co-founded the Skin of Color Center and was instrumental in the organization of the Skin of Color Society.

Dr. DeLeo feels his greatest professional accomplishment has been his impact and mentorship of scores of medical students and dermatology residents. He has been a role model for many and over the years has helped to train more than 125 Board Certified Dermatologists. In sum, his scholarly pursuit, teaching skill, kindness, and above all his keen sense of humor has left an indelible impact on more than a generation of dermatology residents, as well as the entire dermatology community.
