Michael Fernando is a current PhD student in the Neuroscience multidisciplinary training area at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Michael is a member of the Brennand and Slesinger laboratories, where he focuses on functionally validating rare and common genetic variants that underlie Schizophrenia risk. Michael uses a combination of patient derived human induced pluripotent stem cells, CRISPR mediated genome engineering, and electrophysiology to resolve such variants.
Michael graduated from St. Thomas University (Miami, FL) in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology.
