Dr. Ravi Ramaswamy received his medical degree from B.J. Medical College, India. He completed his Family Medicine residency at Underwood-Memorial Hospital, NJ, and his Geriatric Medicine fellowship training in the 2-year clinician educator track at Mount Sinai Hospital. He is an Assistant Professor in the departments of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine, Family Medicine and Community Health, and Medical Education. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP) and the American Geriatrics Society (AGSF). His clinical work is as a primary care provider at the Martha Stewart Center for Living. His academic interests include evidence-based medicine, competency-based medical education and falls prevention in the elderly.
Dr. Ramaswamy has been integrally involved in educating learners at all levels. He has been a faculty member in the Art and Science of Medicine course for medical students since 2011. From 2012-16, he served as the associate director of the Geriatrics fellowship program. Currently, he is the co-director of the Ambulatory Care – Geriatrics clerkship, a mandatory 6-week rotation for 3rd year medical students. In this role, his goal is ensure that students of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai meet or exceed the minimum geriatric competencies laid out by the AAMC, and are able to care for an older patient as a physician in any specialty. Dr. Ramaswamy is a Content Editor of POGOe, a geriatrics education portal for educators. He is also an invited tutor at the Evidence-Based Clinical Practice workshop at McMaster University, Canada annually since 2013.
He has several peer-reviewed publications and has taught at national meetings. Dr. Ramaswamy’s honors include H. Winter Griffith Scholarship for Excellence in Practice Improvement and Patient-centered Care from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM); ‘Geriatrics Clinician of the Year’ and ‘Excellence in Medical Student Teaching in Geriatrics’ awards from the Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine. His work has been supported by the Hartford Centers of Excellence Career Development Award and the ADGAP Geriatrics Education Coordinating Center Grant. Locally, he served as the Treasurer-Secretary of the Metropolitan Area Geriatrics Society from 2012-15. Nationally, he is a nominated member of the Ethnogeriatrics and Quality & Performance Measurement committees at the American Geriatrics Society.
