Collaborative Endocrine Surgery Quality Improvement Program (CESQIP)
The Collaborative Endocrine Surgery Quality Improvement Program (CESQIP), which is chaired by William B. Inabnet III, MD, FACS, is a national program created and managed by the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons. CESQIP focuses on quality and practice improvement in endocrine surgery, with an emphasis on thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, and pancreatic and gastrointestinal neuroendocrine procedures. Mount Sinai was a beta test site for CESQIP, which is now being used in more than 30 participating institutions.
Similar to NSQIP, both programs depend on the timely collection and submission of data to online databases. These databases summarize the data in real time to give feedback on each site's performance compared to that of peer institutions. In addition to key quality indicators, data specific to each specialty allows for more thorough analysis of practice patterns. This gives the patient care teams the ability to examine outcomes that are unique to the specialty's patient population and develop targeted improvements.
