Prostate Interactive Education System (PIES)
At the Barbara and Maurice Deane Prostate Health and Research Center, we understand that patients often have a difficult time deciding on the prostate cancer treatment that is best for them. The Prostate Interactive Education System (PIES) is an innovative tool designed to help newly-diagnosed prostate cancer patients weigh their treatment options and make decisions.
PIES is unique because it offers the latest cancer-related information in a user-friendly format. Patients can also access PIES through a computer terminal either at the Deane Center. PIES provides information in a virtual clinic format.
The software features interviews with Mount Sinai’s prostate specialists who provide answers to frequently asked questions on all recommended treatment options. Users can also enter the vitual support groups to hear from patients who have undergone the procedures A special section in the program is available to address concerns of spouses and partners.
