Overview

The Mount Sinai Diabetes Center is considered a leader in the field of diabetes treatment because we provide compassionate, state-of-the-art, team-based care to patients suffering from type 1, type 2, and gestational (pregnancy-related) diabetes and related disorders.

Our core team consists of endocrinologists, a diabetes nurse practitioner and certified diabetes educator, and a registered dietitian. Specialists from neurology, podiatry, vascular surgery, nephrology, cardiology, internal medicine and other specialties at The Mount Sinai Medical Center are called upon as needed to assist in your care.

Based on the specific type of diabetes, patient age, lifestyle, overall health and the presence of other chronic conditions, we design a treatment and management plan with the future in mind.

Because diabetes is a very serious condition that can involve the heart and circulatory system, eyes, kidneys and blood vessels of the foot and leg, we work closely with every patient to maintain optimum blood sugar control and thereby help to avoid the potential complications of diabetes.

Our Motto: Prevent. Slow. Recover.

By routinely referring our patients to specialists in eye care, circulatory disease, foot care, cardiology and other specialties, and monitoring the results carefully, we strive to prevent future complications, slow the progression of disease, and help patients recover from poor diabetes control or from related complications.

With proper long-term treatment, early referrals to specialists before problems develop, and by offering diabetes education at the Diabetes Center, we help patients lead full and productive lives.

Self-management training is offered in meal planning, physical activities, oral medications and the various forms of insulin therapy.  Adult patients are also taught how to cope with the psychological burdens that diabetes often brings.

In our practice, we routinely treat patients using the latest technical developments and are constantly performing research into diabetes and related endocrine disorders. All of our work as researchers, clinicians, and educators has but one goal: to make everyday life better for our patients – every single day of the year.

We consult regularly with colleagues to ensure we are providing the best, as well as the latest, care. Our goal is to evaluate our patients carefully, and develop a treatment plan that helps them maintain blood glucose levels at the safest levels possible.
