A 16-year-old died after becoming infected by an amoeba in Brevard County, Florida. The amoeba, called naegleria infection, is the only type that infects humans and is more than 95% lethal. The amoeba could have entered the teen's body as the teen swam in a nearby river. P.J. Nash-Ryder, the teen's mother, remarked how this "may be a blessing in disguise." Her daughter "has turned people around" with her commitment to organ donation. Since she was 14 years old, the teen knew she wanted to be an organ donor. She checked and confirmed she was an organ donor on the computer the day before she was admitted to the hospital.
