The Mount Sinai Surgical Intensive Care Unit
The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) cares for Mount Sinai's most critically ill patients. Our multidisciplinary team of critical care specialists (intensivists) has extensive experience dealing with this high-risk, fast-paced environment. The team is guided by Dr. Ernest Benjamin, Chief of the SICU. He has helped bring state-of-the-art care to critically ill patients suffering from a wide range of life-threatening surgical conditions.
The team continues to pioneer the use of new technology including neck, lung and tracheal ultrasound, enabling them to perform procedures with greater safely. Our team specializes in many areas of practice offering echocardiography, along with other non-invasive monitoring methods to improve outcomes.
Our experts also provide life-saving vascular access for patients throughout the Institution, and the SICU Rapid Response Team brings critical care expertise to the patient bedside whenever and wherever needed.
