Post-amputation Program

Mount Sinai’s outpatient services for post-amputation patients focus on a smooth transition from hospital-based services to resuming life in the community. Some of the defining characteristics of the program:

  • Physical therapists have special training and expertise in caring for patients following amputation
  • Close collaboration is maintained with the physiatrist or referring physician regarding the plan of care
  • Patients and prosthetist work together to insure an optimal prescription and fit of the prosthetic device
  • Progressive strength and functional training is used to optimize recovery
  • The program provides opportunities to meet with peer mentors and/or get involved with national advocacy efforts
