
Post-amputation Program
Mount Sinai’s outpatient services for post-amputation patients focus on a smooth transition from hospital-based services to resuming life in the community. Some of the defining characteristics of the program:
- Physical therapists have special training and expertise in caring for patients following amputation
- Close collaboration is maintained with the physiatrist or referring physician regarding the plan of care
- Patients and prosthetist work together to insure an optimal prescription and fit of the prosthetic device
- Progressive strength and functional training is used to optimize recovery
- The program provides opportunities to meet with peer mentors and/or get involved with national advocacy efforts
