About the Neuropsychological Testing and Evaluation Center

The Neuropsychological Testing and Evaluation Center in the Mount Sinai Department of Psychiatry offers comprehensive diagnostic evaluations to assess the full range of memory, cognitive, psychoeducational, and emotional functioning. The answers we provide help patients understand if they’re experiencing normal aging or the symptoms of a neurocognitive disorder such as Alzheimer’s disease. Because testing is also important before signs of memory impairment begin, our Center conducts baseline cognitive assessments for healthy individuals so we can follow up with yearly reassessments to identify disease at the earliest point when treatment can be most effective. Under the direction of Jane Martin, PhD, our staff of neuropsychologists uses the results of our testing to compile detailed recommendations and facilitate the most effective treatments.

Comprehensive Neuropsychological Evaluations

The Neuropsychological Service specializes in memory disorders and is available to help patients with a range of diagnoses including neurodegenerative diseases like dementia, psychiatric conditions such as depression, and cognitive changes following medical illness or surgery. The neuropsychological evaluations we provide result in a detailed report for our patients and referring physicians containing information about the patient’s functioning as well as recommendations related to treatments, referrals, and follow-up care.

Research and Education

In order to further the science of detecting and treating neuropsychological disorders, our Center works with programs including Mount Sinai’s Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, where our patients have the opportunity to access emerging treatments through clinical trial enrollments. Our Center is also committed to training the next generation of skilled neuropsychologists by offering externship, internship, and post-doctoral programs.

Through this blend of clinical service, research, and education, the Neuropsychological Testing and Evaluation Center partners with our colleagues and referring physicians in order to provide patients and their families with the insights and tools they need to receive the most successful care.
