Elena Pe, NP
Elena Pe has been a Nurse Practitioner with the Electrophysiology Section since 1988. She has extensive experience in patient education concerning implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) or pacemakers (PPM). She offers pre- and post-implant education and follow-up.
Elena Pe started and runs a support group for the ICD patients and their families. She is an invaluable resource for the staff, patients and their families for information on all the services offered by the Cardiac Arrhythmia Service. Ms. Pe coordinates various research projects with a focus on antiarrhythmic drugs, ICD and PPM devices.
Magdalena Singson, FNP, MPH
Maggie Singson received her basic nursing education in London, England and has been at Mount Sinai since 1981. She has a bachelors degree in nursing and a masters in Public Health, as well as a masters as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Maggie Singson offers pre- and post-operative instructions and counselling to ICD/PPM patients and their familes, does ongoing assessments of ICD/PPM in-house as requested by other health care givers and organizes and conducts ICD the support group (with Elena Pe).
An invaluable resource in the field of ICD/PPM, Ms. Singson also conducts in-service presentations to health care professionals to familiarize and update their knowledge about ICD/PPM. She assists in most Cardiac Arrhythmia research projects.
Unsoon Shagong, RN
Ms. Shagong is a Clinical Nurse Specialist who has extensive experience in pacemaker patient education and follow-up. She has been at Mount Sinai since the inception of the Pacemaker Center.
She has extensive experience in the education of pacemaker and defibrillator patients, and often has the initial contact with patients, helping them to prepare for the implantation procedures. She helps them understand how to live with a pacemaker and to take care of any problems that may arise. She is an invaluable resource for both patients and cardiology colleagues who rely on her for information that they require for pacemaker follow-up.
Pacemaker/ICD Clinic
All 3 nurses run the busy Pacemaker/ICD clinic five days a week.
