Laser Facials/Resurfacing

Originally pioneered in the 1960’s for medical use, lasers (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) have become ubiquitous in modern life. Medical lasers generally produce their effects through high-energy, focused beams of intense, “single-colored” light. The light, and in some cases the resulting heat, have been found – through ongoing research and extensive clinical experience – to selectively interact, in very useful ways, upon various tissues within the skin and body.

Along with a wide variety of medical applications, numerous lasers have been developed specifically for cosmetic treatments. Fractionated carbon dioxide laser skin resurfacing (FXCO2) is a popular, permanent treatment for many of the effects of aging skin: fine lines and wrinkles, increased pore size, skin blemishes and uneven skin pigmentation. At Mount Sinia’s Center for Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Program, FXCO2 can be performed in the office with local anesthesia or as part of a larger surgical procedure. Healing occurs over approximately one week and the effects continue to develop over the following months.

Cost is always concern, as insurance does not generally cover surgery or treatment that is done purely for cosmetic reasons. We provide patients with expected costs prior to any intervention.
