Pediatric and Adolescent Dermatology
Mount Sinai's Dermatology Department is particularly sensitive to the needs of young patients. Our caring staff members offer child-sized medical gowns and small treats like stickers and lollipops to make your child's visit a pleasant experience. Whenever possible, we use topical numbing cream to make any necessary procedures as painless as possible.
Every physician at Mount Sinai's Dermatology Department is highly qualified to care for patients of all ages. In addition, we are fortunate to have an experienced board-certified sub-specialist in Pediatric and Adolescent Dermatology, Susan V. Bershad, MD. As Chief of the Division of Pediatric and Adolescent Dermatology, Dr. Bershad accepts private patients from birth through age 21. She also collaborates with all of our dermatologists when diagnostic and therapeutic challenges occur in children and teenagers under their care.
Dr. Bershad's areas of expertise include eczema, atopic dermatitis, teenage acne, acanthosis nigricans, nutrition-related skin disorders, moles and birthmarks, common warts, molluscum contagiosum, vitiligo, alopecia areata, hemangiomas, and skin infections. She is the author of the American College of Physicians' widely used evidence-based guidelines to treat acne and atopic dermatitis and has conducted clinical research studies and published numerous articles in her field.
