About Ruttenberg

Dedicated to the special needs of cancer patients and their families, the Derald H. Ruttenberg Treatment Center at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City provides comprehensive outpatient care for patients with all types of cancers, with the exception of breast cancer which is treated at Mount Sinai’s Dubin Breast Center. We also provide outpatient care for patients with benign hematological conditions.

The Ruttenberg Center has a long history of excellence in the treatment of cancer, especially hematological cancers, such as leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and myeloproliferative disorders. Our bone marrow transplant program is one of the largest in the New York City area.

Patients are seen for consultations, second opinions, and treatment at all stages of disease. Currently located in Mount Sinai’s Guggenheim Pavilion, the Ruttenberg Center is scheduled to move to the state-of-the-art Center for Science and Medicine building upon its completion in 2012.

State-of-the-Art, Multidisciplinary Care

At the Ruttenberg Center, you will be cared for by a team of health professionals led by either an oncologist or hematologist who specializes in your form of cancer or blood disorder. Nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants, and registered nurses, all with specialized training in oncology/hematology, will work with you on a daily basis to carry out the plan of care that you and your physician have agreed upon. An on-site pharmacist, social workers, and nutritionist, all of whom are specially trained, will round out your clinical team. You will also have access to a wide range of free support services, including individual and group counseling, nutrition education, and referrals, among others.

Streamlined Outpatient Care

As the outpatient facility for Mount Sinai’s Tisch Cancer Institute, we are able not only to provide our patients with state-of-the-art care such as chemotherapy, biological therapy, and bone marrow transplantation, we can offer access to clinical trials in many cases. We can also draw quickly on the expertise of multiple subspecialtists at Mount Sinai. Should the need exist, we can quickly coordinate referrals to other physicians in multiple medical subspecialties at Mount Sinai, such as cardiology or gastroenterlogy, thereby saving our patients time and the need to coordinate care at multiple institutions.
