Nutrition Services at the Dubin Breast Center
Nutrition is critical to the wellbeing of all people but may become a priority for someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Whether one is receiving active treatment for cancer or has entered the survivorship phase, nutrition counseling is an opportunity to learn about how food and certain lifestyle behaviors can impact health and offers an integrated approach to the management of one’s care. At the Dubin Breast Center, we offer a variety of nutrition services, with the goal of helping our patients feel and function at their best.
Personalized Nutrition Counseling
Research has determined that certain diet and lifestyle factors play important roles in improving breast cancer outcomes, in addition to improving general health and quality of life. At Dubin, we analyze the latest research to help guide our patients towards optimal wellness. We offer compassionate and personalized counseling, based on one’s current health, goals, and life obstacles and encourage nourishment and the enjoyment of quality food rather than restriction or fad dieting. In order to promote healthy and sustainable behavior changes, nutrition consultations focus on lifestyle factors that contribute to health, such as sleep patterns, diet, physical activity, and stress.
Who May Benefit from Nutrition Counseling?
A breast cancer diagnosis often serves as motivation to make lifestyle changes, and many people have nutrition concerns directly related to their illness. Additionally, our environments tend to make healthy living difficult and confusing. All Dubin Breast Center patients are welcomed and encouraged to take advantage of our nutrition services. People commonly request nutrition consultations due to a desire for:
- Relieving general confusion regarding nutrition and breast cancer
- Diet or lifestyle changes and weight loss
- Fine-tuning an already healthy lifestyle
- Learning to eat for a new cancer diagnosis, the management of treatment side-effects, or breast cancer survivorship
Our registered dietitian and specialist in oncology nutrition is available at the Dubin Breast Center to provide individual appointments, infusion visits, group or individual walking consultations (weather permitting), and educational programs for the promotion of:
- General wellness and optimal energy levels
- Effective weight management
- Reduction of chronic disease risk
- Management of cancer or treatment related symptoms
- Healthful cooking and meal planning
