Kim Hayes was preparing for an outdoor press conference in New York City last August, when she suddenly became very hot. Everything started spinning and she was covered in sweat. Someone noticed she looked unwell and helped her over to a bench. Her cardiologist, Icilma Fergus, MD, associate professor of medicine and cardiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai said she often hears her female patients say they put their health second or don’t realize how serious certain diseases are. “It’s very common. I think it’s just the matriarch and mother instinct.”
