A bike battle is brewing in the city in the wake of increased cyclist deaths. According to Joseph Herrera, DO, professor and system chair of rehabilitation and human performance at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, “Riders who don’t wear helmets and are struck face severe cognitive deficits, brain injury, and death.” He added, “You’re looking at a lifetime of disability whenever someone gets injured when not wearing a helmet.”
